Capacitive Level Sensing

The flush mount KNM capacitive switch senses the level of plastic pellets in the various hoppers of a blender. This sensor can be mounted flush to the hopper wall eliminating build-up. The sensor includes a pushbutton and remote adjustment for teaching the proper setpoint value. This new technology eliminates potentiometers and simplifies the setup process. The KNM level switch also has built-in compensation for temperature and humidity changes in the environment.

AS-i Bus System

Quick disconnect level sensors used in conjunction with I/O blocks can eliminate terminal boxes and simplify wiring. The four and eight-port I/O blocks support the AS-i bus system which provides power and output signals on two wires thus eliminating parallel wiring. This method of wiring results in a modular machine design that reduces wiring cost and is simple to upgrade.

Vacuum Level Monitoring

The PN Series vacuum sensor can monitor the proper vacuum level for a material handling conveying system. The sensor includes a self-contained display that allows the setpoint and resetpoint to be programmed before the switch is installed, eliminating the need for a gauge.

Material Level

The use of pneumatic loaders that incorporate a sight glass is increasing in the plastics processing industry. The ifm efector non-flush mount KNM switch is ideal for controlling the proper level of material in the sight glass. The switch has a microprocessor and a pushbutton that can be used to "teach" the empty and full condition. This simple calibration process results in a setpoint that has a maximum margin of safety in the application. Once the setup is complete, the switch will reliably sense all types of materials through the sight glass.

Hydraulic Pressure

The PN Series electronic pressure sensor monitors hydraulic clamping pressure. These units utilize a ceramic sensing element that resists dynamic pressure surges and has a high burst pressure rating. In the "run" mode it is possible for an operator to see the setpoint value and the system pressure on the 10-LED bar graph display.

Hydraulic Fluid Level

The KNQ capacitive switch senses the level of hydraulic fluid in a power unit. The low-profile design sensor is mounted to a sight glass with a strap. The sensor can be taught the worst case condition in the application. Once properly set, it will ignore the sight glass and any build up. The KNQ is much more reliable than float switches or other mechanical devices.

Coolant Flow

The SI Series flow sensor can be used to monitor the proper cooling water flow rate to a mold. The "calorimetric" sensing principle of this device results in a sensor design that has no moving parts which can break or stick in a line. There is also a built-in display on the sensor for indicating setpoint value and the flow status.

Chiller Temperature Sensing

The TR Series temperature sensor monitors the temperature of cooling water on a chiller. The integrated display and pushbutton adjustment simplify the installation. An operator can select the proper temperature value and setup an alarm point. The TR Series sensor also offers a number of flexible mounting options. For example, the sensor may be mounted directly in the process, or in a thermowell, and the display can be remote mounted.

Laser Part Detection

ifm efector position sensors can be used to protect a mold from being damaged in a press. For example,OG laser sensors verify part ejection and are easy to setup because of the visible red laser. The small IS inductive sensors can be directly embedded into a mold to sense slide and pin position. The combination of quick disconnect sensors and I/O blocks dramatically simplify the process of changing molds resulting in flexible production.
